# Trying a session

> Try one session of a course or term before booking the whole block, and what happens afterwards.

Some clubs let a child try **one** session of a programme sold as a block before you book the rest. It might be free or have its own price. Each child can have one trial per programme.

## How to tell if a trial is offered

On the programme's page, the **Price** box says what a trial costs under the main price, for example "Trial session: free" or "Trial session: £8.00". If you see nothing about a trial, the club does not offer one for this programme.

## Book a trial

**1. Choose Try one session**

Under **Book the whole block, or try one session first?**, choose **Try one session** for the child who is trying it.

**2. Tap the date you want**

Tap one date on the grid. To change your mind, tap another date and the trial moves there.

**3. Press Book**

The trial goes in your basket marked **Trial session**. If it is free, the basket says "There is nothing to pay. Confirm to book."

You can book a trial for one child and the whole block for a brother or sister at the same time.

> [!NOTE]
>
> A trial is never discounted, and it does not count towards sibling or "more sessions" discounts. Promo codes do not apply to it.

## After the trial

If your child was signed in at their trial, you get one email that evening asking how they got on, with the rest of the block and its price. The link opens the programme with every date still on sale ready to book. Press **Book** to hold them.

When you book the block, the trial date is left out, since your child already has it. You pay only for the dates still on sale.

## If you cannot make the trial date

A trial cannot be moved to another date. Cancel it in time, using your club's cancellation rule, then book a different date. See [Cancelling](https://clubdock.co.uk/docs/parents/cancelling.md).

Your child can have another trial if:

* the trial was cancelled before it took place, or
* your child was marked absent on the day.

## When a trial is refused

| You see | Why |
| - | - |
| *Child* has already had a trial session of *programme*. | Each child gets one trial per programme. |
| A trial of *programme* for *child* is already in a basket. | You, or your child's other parent, are already holding a trial for them. |
| *Child* already has a place on *programme*, so there is no trial to book. | Your child is already booked on the block. |
| *Programme* no longer offers a trial session. | The club switched trials off while it was in your basket. Remove it to book everything else. |
